The Groove has some of the best musicians in town!
AllyJo Frush is a Performing Artist from Los Angeles California. She has studied music and improv at various schools in LA and San Diego since 2009; including Studio2628 and The Groundlings Theatre. She moved to Portland in 2015 where she joined. The Groove and spends her time working on various projects both here in Portland and back in Los Angeles. She is a self proclaimed goof ball and fun enthusiast.
Guitarist / Vocals
In October 2015, Lance arrived back in Portland from a contract in Europe, where he was performing in the show band on board the Caribbean Princess cruise ship. Originally from Long Island, New York, he attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he lived until 2011. In June of 2015, he earned his Masters of Music degree in jazz studies from Portland State University.
Bass Guitar / Vocals
Eric has been playing music since the age of eight, first on guitar, then switching to violin, end eventually choosing bass guitar. Early influences include a broad spectrum of styles, including folk, rock, classical and jazz. Eric’s performance experience consists of extensive touring of the west coast and points beyond. Eric’s primary goal is to get people on the dance floor, and his rockin’, grooving, smoothin’ bass will surely get you there.
Tenor Saxophone / Vocals
Melissa is an Oregon native who spent nine years living in South Asia while traveling and playing music. After returning in 2012, she enrolled at Portland State University where she is currently working towards her Master's in Jazz Studies.
A self-proclaimed nerd, Melissa loves all things Jazz and saxophone related.
Drummer and Founder
Founder of “The Groove”, Rod has been working in clubs since the age of 14. He has 20 plus years in the Northwest music business and has played with members of Quarterflash, Nu Shooz, Hart, Rail, Steve Miller Band and some of the finest musicians that the Northwest has to offer. Rod spent his early twenties working in the record business for Capitol records, where he caught the promotion bug. Rod first started playing events and weddings after a stint working as a soundman for the “Swingline Cubs.” "I'm excited to be playing with such talented musicians”.
The Groove, truly is one of the very best bands in Portland and I am proud to be a part of it!
